When checking out fishing rods, one of the foremost features to consider is the length. Easily, it can be anywhere from 4 to 14 feet. The difference between short and long rods is that the former are most commonly used for lightweight lures and smaller bodies of water. For example, if you are fishing in a stream or small lake, the shorter rod is best. If you fish for smaller fish, you don't need all the backbone a longer rod contains.

Meanwhile, the longer rod allows you to cast your line farther and fight stronger, sometimes bigger fish in larger currents than a small stream or lake.
